"During a recent break in Wells Next The Sea, my husband and our two year old, we visited The White Horse in Brancaster Staithe for lunch. With wide views over the sea and salt marshes to Scolt Head Island and beyond, The White Horse is the ideal place to sample some of Norfolk's freshest fish and good wine. With an abundance of awards including AA Seafood Pub of the Year Award for 2005 – 2006, the place is absolutely wonderful.
Alongside the breathtaking views of the salt marshes which constantly changes with the dramatic tides, we enjoyed a fine bottle of wine and we each had a Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Ciabatta with homemade sweet potato crisps and dressed leafy green salad. The childrens menu was also fantastic with our son and he happily devoured a good size bowl of pasta. Considering the setting and the quality of food and service, you get great value for money with a Ciabatta meal for around £6.00. Other items on the menu were Baked sardines on toasted ciabatta with tomato compote and herb oil £4.95, White Horse Caesar salad with Bayonne ham and Parmesan and a hen's egg £5.95 and Salad of hot Cajun chicken with grilled peppers and lemon dressing £5.25/£8.50.
The Inn has a conservatory dining room and an adjoining sun deck which has around 8 well spaced tables. The decor is very stylish and uses seascape colours and designs. I particulary liked the restrooms which felt like the seaside! The staff were young and extrenmely friendly and helpful and there was a sense that they were proud to be working there.
It is obvious that the Inn appeals to tourists of the area, but it is also enjoyed by locals of the village and surrounding area. . There is a good selection of beer from the area and there is a great choice of wines which you can buy by the bottle or glass. Personally I can think of nothing nicer than watching the tide roll in over a bottle of Pinot Grigio (at high tide the sea reaches the bottom of the garden)
The White Horse also offers hotel accommodation with 15 en-suite bedrooms and I hope to stay there very soon.
I can definately say that this is one of the nicest places I have been to for a meal and a drink. With the beautiful views and good food and wine, it will make any lunch memorable.
To top it all off, you can enjoy a walk along the Norfolk Coastal Path which runs along the bottom of the garden. We explored several villages on foot which really gives you the opportunity to see rural Norfolk at its best."
