"What a wonderfull place to visit, its full of historical places and things to see. getting there can only be done by plane or ferry, neither of which take to long and so long as the weather is nice the ferry ride can be rather in joyable, the all have cafe's/shops/a cinama/ and a pub onboard.
Kirkwall has many shops and businesses including: Woolworths, chemists, travel agents, computer supplies, supermarket, numerous cafés, fish and chip shops, Chinese and Indian restaurants, etc. some of the things to see and do are TOMB OF THE EAGLES - A chambered tomb around 5000 years old, named after all the eagles claws that it contained when discovered. SKAILL HOUSE - Situated close to the prehistoric village of Skara Brae, this 17th-century house has been refurbished and is now open to the public. Gift shop. Apparently you can see the dinner service which was used on Captain Cook's ship CLICK MILL - A horizontal water mill used for grinding grain in the 19th century MARWICK HEAD - Climb to the top and you will find a 200-foot drop straight down into the foaming sea YESNABY CLIFFS - Formed by layer upon layer of the Middle Old Red Sandstone that makes up most of Orkney KIRBISTER FARM MUSEUM AND CORRIGAL FARM MUSEUM - Both farms have displays of old farm houses and equipment and on christam day and new years day there is the ba in the town center. i lived in orkney for 2 years and go back on holiday every year, it truly is a wonderfull place to visit" Was this recommendation useful?
