"Jersey's shell garden was originally started in 1957 by a single man who had recently brought a newly built house and wanted something different and unusual surrounding it other than lawn. He was a keen shell collector and decided to bring them to life by building models and statues with them. Now the gardens are thought to be the largest of its kind in the world. As you walk around these fantastic displays of animals and plants and through the archways you can admire that everything you see is made purely from locally collected shells even the pathways and water features. If you feel like taking a rest sit on the numerous benches also made of shells and marvel at these spectacular works of art. Although the gardens are almost fifty years old and have been sold on they still continue to grow. I was stunned on my visit that shells which children collect on holidays and parents always find hidden in the luggage when unpacking back at home can made things so beautiful. Wheeldchairs and pushchairs are very welcome as the majority of pathways are quite wide, but if you visit please bear in mind that this is still a family home."
