"We went just yesterday, we were looking for something to do that wouldn't evolve a lot of driving to get there and would be cheap to do, what with it being the holidays and wanting to do something each day, well this place was all of the above only 8 miles from our house and admission is free. They have a really massive collection of things to see, in the Chinese art room, most of this section is on plates and vases but also includes Neolithic burial urns and a broad selection of porcelain items and a couple of ritual vessels. In the room of ancient Egypt there are a lot of stone sculptures on display, most are in glass boxes but there are a few that are not, I had about 50 heart attacks that day, thinking my eldest might nock something over. The room of ancient Greese and Rome I here there if a magnificent collection of vases, sculptures and jewellery. On to the Hutton rooms - these are a drawing room, dining room, hall which is supposed to be accurate reconstructions of rooms in Sir William Burrell's last home, Hutton castle. The have a paintings room but due to them getting it ready for an exabition we were unable to visit this room, so I guess we will have to make another trip to see it during the next school holidays. The gothic art room was not what I expected it to be, I though it would all be black and depressing but I was wrong, it has a selection of wood and stone sculptures, metalwork and ivories, almost all of the art in this section is religious. Islamic art – in this room you get to see a selection of carpets and rugs form the Muslim world and also early Islamic ceramics.
In the 16th and 17th century room you get the pleasure of seeing painting, embroidered furnishings and textiles. In the arms and armour room you can see a nice display of European armour and weapons from the 13th – 17th century. In the Tapestry galleries they have a big selection of tapestries large and small, and furniture from the same period in time. In the needle work room you can see a small selection of items from sir William Burrell's collection of embroidered textiles again in this room the lights are kept low to protect the materials. And my favourite room was the stained glass room where they have on display some of the best stained glassed and painted glass, this room is kept dark and all the glass is mounted on to the wall with backing lights so you can see how nice they are. This was a wonderful place to visit, not so good inside for the kids, but just out side where the car park is they have a rather large play park, and also horse drawn carriages if you want to take a ride, I don't think I would have remembered so much if it wasn't for the fact that I took almost 400 photos, not a lot considering there is over 9000 items in the collection"
