"I've only lived in corby for 18 months, but and I've made the Harpers Brooke my local. I came from London to Corby due to it's low house prices and easy access to London (Only 55 mins on the train) and didn't really know anything about the town. As I bought a house on the ever-growing Oakley Vale estate, we were looking a decent local. We tried a few pubs in the area, some pretty rough and some pretty good. The Spread Eagle prob being my favorite before this one.
Not long after we moved up, the new local opened and it was on my estate! When you walk in, you can tell it's a new pub, nice open spaces, mostly no smoking, large eating areas, plus some nice, almost private areas for watching the football etc, without being bothered by kids etc.
This isn't a pub that you will find kicking music where you might want to go to get psyched up for the clubs. This is a more chilled out atmos, well kept by the Landlady and staff.
They have a fairly strict dress code, where they insist that no soiled work gear or sportswear be worn in the pub. At first I thought this OTT and not enforceable, but as it turned out, this has been kept up and generally people know and stick to the rules. I think that everybody that frequents the pub appreciates this.
The food is good, with very reasonable pub meals. I have mainly gone for sandwhiches etc so cant' comment too much. There are good beers and wines available, with special offers quite regular.
When I first went there they had Sky Sports, but for some reason dropped it. International and European football is still shown on the smart LCD Tvs scattered around the place.
We're hoping that they get their sky sports back cos it's a great pub to watch it in.
Corby is an up and coming town and the standard of the Harpers Brook pub is a good indicator. More of this is necessary please. Well done to the staff there and keep up the good work.
