Whitby TownWhitby, Yorkshire, England YorkshireRecommendation added: 08/12/2006 10:55 By: nancy (YSUK rating +1) nancy has been thanked 1 times for this contribution
"I've been traveling to Whitby since I was a child, it's traditional cobbled streets and original buildings are a rare site nowadays, and it still is a fishing town though not quite to the extent it used to be, you can still see the fishing boats in the harbour and look out to the north sea.
There are several restaurants serving locally caught sea food (though others serve sea food not locally caught, it's still well cooked). the accommodation is cheap and there is the ruin of the abbey, and the 99 steps as featured in Bram Stokers Dracula, which is partly set in Whitby. There's also gothic weekends in April and October for all you goths who are into the Vampire connection at Whitby. You can also visit "The Dracula Experience" along the sea front if it floats your boat, I go every time I visit. It's like a wax museum telling the story of Dracula in stages with it's wax works, very spooky and perhaps not suitable for very young children." Was this recommendation useful?
