Take the A4067 from Sennybridge or Swansea (same road different directions).
Coming from Sennybridge you will pass the Crai Reservoir on the right before dropping of the tops and down past Dan yr Ogof on the right. Once you have passed that, slow down on the bends and take the entrance immediately in front of the castle that looms up on the left. Coming from Swansea you will go through a village called Penycae. Ignore the first left, go past the castle and then turn immediately right into the car-park.
This time of year it's empty. Big wide open spaces, ducks to feed, walks to tramp around. Wellies required.
It's perfect for a quiet walk with the little un. Big muddy puddles to sploosh in, spectacular views of Cribarth and all to yourself and your family. We never met another soul other than the cheerful park ranger.
However, I do recommend a change of clothes for anyone under 40. The puddles are impossible to resist!
Ideal for a winter picnic on a bright and cold day.
Even in mid-summer it's relatively quiet. Not ever any crowds here. However, if you book ahead you can do river dipping.
