"West Lodge Rural Centre is conveniently located in the Desborough countryside within 30 minutes of Peterborough, Northampton and Leicester, within easy reach of all major routes by car, being one mile from the A6, five minutes from the A14 and twenty minutes from both the A1 and M1.
If you are looking for somewhere to take the family, West Lodge is a fabulous day out for children of all ages. There is so much fun to be had! Children (and adults) can meet and learn about different types of rare breeds on the farm through information provided and the friendly staff, handle the rabbits and guinea pigs in Cuddle Corner, cuddle the ducks, giggle at the pigs as they race around a race track, feed the animals including the pygmy goats on Goat Mountain and much more. Some lambs have just been born and the kids can feed and hold them! There is a great walk with about five miles of nature trails. The kids love this as you explore the land through woods, meadow, steams and ponds. I find this a great way to teach children about wildlife pointing out the muntjac, hares, wild rabbits and roe deer and various birds in the sky. There is a fantastic playground for children including sandpits, cradle swings, climbing frames and particulary fun is the tractor pen where your toddlers and children can drive around on play tractors for hours. There is even a barrel ride which runs every hour. This is a tractor with barrels for carriages which is great fun! After all the fun and learning, there is a lovely (licensed) restaurant/cafe which serves homecooked food, cakes and lite bites. Rickyards restaurant is very well appointed with traditional farmhouse furniture and a wood burner. They even have a childrens area with toys so the adults can really relax! Opening times: Open every day from 1st February - 24th December / 27th - 31st December Open weekends only in January. Entrance Fees Entrance fees are very good - Adult £4.75, Child £3.75, OAP £4.25 and family ticket is £15.00 (peak times) Adult £4.25, Child £3.25, OAP £3.75 and family ticket is £12.50 (off peak times)" | |
