"New Lanark is real piece of scottish history.
This beautifully restored 18th century cotton mill village shows you the life of Robert Owen and how his ideas transformed the life of the villagers. His Ideas were a hundred years ahead of it's time which is probably why they worked better. Robert Owen abolished child labour and corparal punishment, gave his workers better homes, and made sure they never went hungry by making food more affordable and that when ill healthcare was free. He also made sure that the children had proper schooling so that they could a good job, and even gave adults night classes so they could improve too! You can experience what life was like by walking through the seven exhibits, from the way they were to the way robert owen changed. Please note that you will be outside to go from exhibit to exhibit so make sure you pack an umbrella, just incase! This is a great educational day out for the whole family from kids to grandparents. You will also go on the annie macloud ride, where this little girl's ghost talks about working in the mills and how Robert Owen helped her and her family. I was really surprised when I visited as I thought it was going to be abit boring, but it wasn't at all and I really enjoyed it. And if it's a nice day why not walk up the waterfall, it really is magnificent." Was this recommendation useful?
