"It was that time of year again for us where we get the chance to have our holiday, my daughter looks after the dogs and we look at the map and decide which park of our beautiful countryside we want to visit this year. My Hubby quite fancied Norfolk and I wanted to visit the historic town of Lincoln, so where did we choose? We decided on Boston in Lincolnshire which is in the bottom part of Lincolnshire about 37 miles from Lincoln and about the same for King's Lynn and Burgleigh House another place I wanted to visit.

So onto the internet to find a campsite in the area we had opted for. Using Google search I put in Boston UK camping site and up popped UK Camp Sites and an advert for Pilgrims Way Camping Park. There were pictures on the site, but I have to say they did not show much, but reading down the list which stated it had a luxury shower and toilet block which was five star rated, a private disabled toilet and shower facility which is great as these days I need help from my hubby in case I fall in the shower as my balance is not very good. Well all this sold it to us and so we booked via landline for our 2006 holiday.

The day of our holiday arrived and off we went on our 3.5 hour journey from Shropshire to the village of Fishtoft, Boston, Lincolnshire. The journey was very pleasant and as you drive along the A52 across Lincolnshire you drive through the fens, which is reclaimed marshland, miles and miles of flat countryside, I have never seen so many fields of vegetables at their different stages of growth throughout the journey.

As you come through Boston you turn off the A52 and onto the small roads that take you through the village of Fishtoft and the campsite is signposted from the village.

~~Arrival and the Site ~~

The site has a barrier which only opens with a card key, which you don't get until you register at reception. So we have to leave the car and caravan blocking the entrance gate (as there is no where else to put them), and walk up to reception book in and get a key. We were met by a lovely lady who is the owner of the site; she took us to the reception which was located in the conservatory attached to the family home. Our first impressions were excellent the site was small and quaint with everything we would need either on site or within a mile of the site.

We are very impressed as a lot of sites we go to, the caravans are lined up with little or no privacy, but this site had individual bays for your tourer, car and awning. The area for your caravan is on Cotswold Stone and would fit a double axle caravan with about 10ft to spare. There is enough grass area for you to have your awning up, your table and chairs outside and park your car. These bays are partitioned off by fir trees, which not only give you privacy and your own space, but muffle the sounds from other campers (and protect them from my hubby's snoring).

Although children are welcome there are not any playgrounds or anything and ball games are not permitted, but there is enough room in your own area to play games with your children.
We have set up in our lovely corner plot which we are extremely pleased with, so let's go onto the short walk to the toilets and see what they are like. It is only around 50ft away to the block and we pass a concrete area with around 6-7 benches and tables on, I think you can borrow them or use it as a communal area to chat to other campers and just get together and maybe have a barbecue party. A nice idea, we are friendly people us campers I have you know. Anyway, I am supposed to be checking out the loos. The disabled toilet is a lovely size with the handles and raised toilet seat, plus a shower and sink, there is plenty of room inside, I tried the shower and it was excellent and you can even adjust the water temperature which is good as lots of campsites usually have it at a fixed temperature. The disabled bathroom was large enough to cater for me and my hubby to look after me.

Fortunately I am only using a stick and not in a wheelchair so I could check out the ladies as well, there are two toilets and two showers, plus sinks and a hairdryer. My hubby informs me that the gents are the same layout as the ladies and do not have urinals. They are all very clean and well kept, so far during our visit the door has been left open, but if it does get closed there is a key code to get in and out which is given to you on your arrival.

There are also washing machines provided at a nominal fee of £1.00 for your use and a washing up area for those that need it.

All plots come with electric hook ups and of course there are waste disposal points and fresh water points for you to use.

This is a very small site with 7 static's and only 12 plots for tents, caravans or mobile homes. It is very quite and peaceful, situated off a country road which is not too busy.

~~ Out and About ~~

Only 5 minutes down the road is a spar shop for those little things you have forgotten. It is only around 10-15mins to get into the picturesque town of Boston, where you can visit the shops, or some of its museums or the Boston Stump (St Botolph's Parish Church) which was built in the 14th century and is the largest parish church in Britain, it proudly presents 'The Stump' which is a 272ft tower.

It is only a short journey by car to a nearby Bowling Alley and swimming pool. There is also fishing, cycling and walks going on within the local area.

Just a short drive, further down the A52 you reach the seaside towns of Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes. You also have Lincoln, which is a wonderful historic town with many places of interest including the Cathedral and the Castle, not to mention the cobbled streets and loads of shops.

There is a granite memorial at Scotia Creek, Fishtoft which marks the place where the Pilgrim Fathers embarked on there famous journey in the Mayflower. This is also at the start of the Havenside Country Park which gives you lovely country walks alongside The Wash. All this is around 3 miles from the campsite.

There are so many more places to visit and things to do around Lincolnshire, country houses, castles, wildlife centres, the seaside etc, you won't get bored.

It sounds a lovely site and your write up is great. We are always looking for small sites away from the "Maddening" crowds.
