"We have just returned from a birthday treat to wookey hole. Firstly we had children ranging from 3 years to 15 years old and ALL enjoyed the "hole" day :)
the day started with an informative guided tour of the caves. (i've been in a few of these around the country and these are amongst , if not, the best I've been in. As well as the history of the caves you will also learn of the legends and see where they started for yourselves. There are some steps and also some low points so just bear this in mind, also some of the walkways inside the caves are quite high and hearing that the pools/caverns below you are in places 200 ft deep makes this that bit more exhilarating.
Once out of the caves you stroll back down through the "fairy garden" - will you or your kids be able to spot them all? . From there its throught the dinosaur valley, plenty of opportunities for some fun photos of the kids (or adults) "riding" or wrestling dinosaurs.
Follow the path and it leads you into the old paper mill - in here you can find out in depth about the history of the caves and also the ever ongoing exploration further into them, Also there is a film every 10 minutes telling the history of the papermill and paper making , if that has wetted your appetite the next section gives you the oportunity to see what the film has taught you and have a go at making a piece of paper.
Time for a rest? some coffe machines and crisp/machines in a seating area where the kids (under 12) can take advantage of the indoor adventure playground.
Then onto the Victorian penny arcade if you have any old penny's laying around at home take them with you if not they sell (and buy back if you're lucky enough to win) them there.
onto the pirate and zap zone - kids can squirt things with water jets or shoot a target or each other with air propelled sponge ball shooters.
From there through the mirror maze ( watch how many people walk into the mirrors , then onto the hall of mirrors to lose a few pounds, or put on a few feet!
Through the gift shop and down to the bigtop restaurant where they sell reasonably priced good quality food and on the way there they have the teddy bear museum/shop ( a must see if only to be astounded at just how much some can be worth).
Whilst we were there they also had a pen with newborn lambs in which the kids enjoyed.
At this point the adults sat down with various refreshments and let the kids go back into all the various play areas mentioned and amuse themselves its very safe and there's no where really for the kids to get lost!
The worst bit about the whole day was trying to round the kids up when we were ready to go - they wanted to stay longer which considering we'd been there almost all day i think speaks for itself!
Definately a great day out for the whole family!!

for a better look and to find out whats on when you're near - www.wookey.co.uk"
