"Perched atop the main cliff in the centre of Scarborough, the castle peers out over the Marine Drive and harbour around 300 feet below. It's quite a walk up. Incidentally, though you can spoil the experience of making your way through Scarborough's winding little streets, including the intriguingly-named 'Paradise', and drive up Castle Road, if you wish.
Much of the castle is now crumbling, though English Heritage do much to keep it intact and well-preserved. You can pay to enter the English Heritage portion if you wish, though in my opinion there's just as much fun to be had exploring the little walkways around the castle. An avid and daring explorer will quickly discover the children's playpark nestled just outside the main castle walls, sure to delight children (and some adults, it must be said!) The views are amazing, and you can always spend a few minutes gazing out over the sea while your legs recover from their earlier ordeal.
More brave exploring will find iron gates and little nooks amongst the bushes, scratches and marks on walls that fire the imagination and a whole host of other amazing treasures. Of course, if you want to splash out there's even more on the inside of the castle walls, but a trip to Scarborough Castle offers plenty of opportunity for fun without needing to spend too much."
