"A delightful family run caravan/chalet park only a short drive from the River Cottage Country town of Bridport.
This park has approximately 20 Large caravans and 10 Lodges. A number of the lodges have ramps up to their entrances, therefore making access easy for the disabled. Prices are very reasonable for a weeks stay - with many of the accommodations holding up to 6 people! Bed Linen, TV's etc are offered for a minimal extra charge, and the caravans had free gas and electricity charge. The electricity in the lodges was on a coin meter – but I think in the course of a week we only needed to put about £3 in the meter – and at no point did we run out!
A nice touch on arrival was a welcome tray in our lodge – tea, coffee and biscuits with some milk to get us started. We also arrived earlier than the stated check in time, and they were very accommodating, and let us into our lodge several hours early. They also provided a welcome pack detailing things to do in the area – even down to how to get to the local Supermarket.
Within the park is a large Children's play area where the kids are free to play as long as they like - it has a very sociable feel to it - all the children spend hours playing together.
The Park itself is set back from the main road, and surrounded by huge conifers - despite it being a main road, we didn't notice any noise from it during our stay. Parking is permitted outside each individual accommodation.
The owners are very easy going, and can't do enough to help you. Nothing is too much for these people. They are also quite happy for you to bring your barbeque with you, or otherwise there are facilities for you to have a barbie in any case.
Rubbish bins are well located for you to dispose of your waste, and they are emptied daily.
Dorchester is a stones throw away, with plentiful shopping and a huge Tesco's for all your food supplies. There are also numerous farm shops in the area for those local produce luxuries – our daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed browsing round many of these and we all enjoyed devouring the fresh produce at the end of a day!
There is plenty to do in the area with many beaches near by, and the Jurassic coast boasts plenty of sites for amateur fossil collecting – Lyme Regis being the most famous. We personally found Charmouth Beach to be delightful – easy access with a huge car park (and ice cream vans to boot!). A bit more of a drive away was West Bay – which has a great harbour, and we spent hours hanging over the side of the harbour with our crab lines. There is also plenty of fishing to be had there.
Bridport itself is a sweet little town – quite oldy worldy – and has a large market each Wednesday and a farmers market on a Saturday. The town has not become overly commercialised despite the Television programmes, and maintains a country town feel to it.
Swanage is about an hours drive from here, and the beaches there are extensive – well supplied with shops and cafes, and extremely clean.
Enroute to Swanage, which was a huge hit with our 5 year old daughter, was Corfe Castle. We were there at Easter, and they had organised an easter egg hunt. The kids had to find answers to 5 questions dotted around the castle site, and were reward with a net of chocolate eggs for their endeavours.
Other places of interest suggested by the caravan park are:
· Dorchester - county & market town - birthplace of Thomas Hardy.
· Hardy's Monument
· Weymouth, West Bay, Burton Bradstock and many other seaside resorts, at many of which boat and fishing trips can be arranged.
· Portland Bill and Chesil Beach
· Abbotsbury Swannery and Tropical Gardens
· Bridport
· Bovington Tank Museum
· Yeovilton Air Station - home of Concorde
· Compton Acres - gardens
· Bournemouth and Poole Harbour"
