"Bo'ness and kinneil rail way is run by volunteers who restore the collection on trains and also operate and maintain the railway its self. The place is small but it makes for a lovely family day out, how often do you get to travel behind a historic locomotive that has been lovingly restored. The views you see along the journey are so lovely you never want to get of and go home. When you get to sirkhill you can go for a visit down to the birkhall fireclay mine, where an experienced guide will take you on a 45 minuet tour, from the stations platform into the underground, in the underground workings you will get to see 300 million year old fossils and get to see what it was like to live as a miner, this part of the days isn't best for the disabled, really young or the really old,
The station is only open certain days a year and on most of these days they have special events running, my family's favourite is to go and see all the restored trains from Thomas the tank engine which runs on the 19th 20th and 21st of may, the 10th 11th and 12th of August and ask the 15th and 16th of September. In Christmas you can go for a ride on the train with Santa who will come round and give all the children a present. They also have special events on for Easter, spring weekend,
When you get back to bo'ness why not cross the footbridge and visit the Scottish railway exhibition which is only open the day the trains run and costs just £1, they have a large selection do locomotives, carriages and wagons, they also have models and displays where you can see the history of the railways in Scotland. Here they also encourage you to climb on to and explore some of the exhibits."
