The charming town of Arundel,West SussexArundel, Sussex, England South EastRecommendation added: 25/08/2007 09:44 By: Sarahpaine (YSUK rating +3) Sarahpaine has been thanked 3 times for this contribution
"A trip to the historical town of Arundel in West Sussex really makes for a lovely day out. Having lived on the South Coast for almost four years and just 40 minutes away from Arundel, I recently visited the town with my 6-week old son, and couldn't believe that I had not found it before!
Easily reached by the A27, Arundel is situated between the City of Chichester and Worthing. Arundel is famous for its castle (aptly named Arundel Castle!), which dominates the skyline and is situated in the heart of the town. Built at the time of the Norman Conquest, it is beautifully maintained with large grounds and a chapel. At £12 for adults and around £32 for a family ticket, it's not a cheap outing, but a trip to Arundel wouldn't quite be the same if you didn't it. The town of Arundel itself spans periods since medieval times and you can spend a good hour or two wandering the streets and enjoying the exquisite houses and gardens. The narrow streets are home to lots of 'proper' little shops, such as delicatessen, craft and antique shops as well as tea rooms and restaurants. I bought a really nice bottle of port for my husband from the delicatessen I can't remember the name of it but it's at the bottom of the high street, you can't miss it. It sells lots of cheeses and specialty foods as well as wine. Arundel really is a charming little town with plenty do and what's more, everything is really close together so you don't have to drive around to see what is has on offer. Enjoy!"
