"Muirhall Cottages are probably the best finished luxury cottages you will find in southern Scotland. They are located in the tranquil countryside, yet Edinburgh, Glasgow, Sterling, Lanark and Biggar as the gateway to the beautiful Borders country are within very easy striking distance. The owners have spared no expense in converting former farm buildings into five havens of peace and luxury. They also provide the very best hospitality that Scotland has to offer. Children are well catered for with a playgound (which you cannot generally hear from the cottages!), bicycles and an enviable selection of farm animals, including numerous rare American Quarter horses, sheep, cattle, dogs and cats Our two stays with two small children allowed us to explore the counrty town of Biggar with its fascinating small museums, the puppet theatre with its exceptional puppet productions (which must be seen to be believed), quality country food shops and for the keen game fisherman or lady, access to the renowned trout and salmon of the Clyde and the Tweed a little further down the road. The Trossachs and Loch Lomond as an introduction the Highlands are an hour's drive away. Edinburgh and Glasgow in less time, even reachable by train from West Calder around 10 minutes drive away. Depending on season, you can participate endless activities and events from the not to be missed Edinburgh Tattoo to Highland Gatherings when men throw huge objects seemingly impossible distances whilst massed bagpipe bands play next to Scottish dancers. Back to the cottages, there is no better place to stay and they deserve the Scottish Tourist Board's 5 star rating."
