"Sandal castle is a fantastic free day out. It includes some fantastic ruins, signs explaining the history to you, great climbs and fantastic scenery. Aswell as a large amount of grass and ditches great for walking your dog or letting your kids burn some steam off.
There are some dangerous bits if you want to take them. Like climbing up ruins, climbing up ruins up hills. However, there are also stairs and other features for the older audience and much safer type. However, its great letting your kids climb they will love it. Sandal castle overlooks the River Calder it's in a stunning position. After you have visited this castle there is an information centre and cafe so you have no need to worry. During the English Civil War in the 1640s Sandal Castle was besieged twice by Parliamentary forces. After this it was stripped all of its defences. Its great to see many you want to take some photos its a great photo taking place.
