"I have been travelling to Lichfield for years but it has only been about twelve months now that I have started using the train station and I have to say it is a good train station. I know you know what you are expecting with stations and this one has a nice charm about it and I will let you know why I feel happy to travel from here.
First I will let you know where it is:
Lichfield City Train Station
Station Road
Lichfield
Staffordshire
WS13 6HX
Lichfield does have two train stations and the city one is the biggest. Location terms it is brilliant as it is literally a five minute walk away from the shops. It is well sign posted and everybody will be able to tell you where it is if you ask when you are in Lichfield. The station is also close to the bus station so you have no problems if you need to get the bus anywhere.
So the appearance of the station from the outside is very nice. Lichfield City Station is written is in big letters above the station and the building (like most in Lichfield) is of nice architecture. There are car parking spaces in front of the station but they do get filled up fast. Seriously by about seven in the morning.
If you carry on a little up the hill though to the left of the station there is a bigger car park and you can almost always find a space up there. Parking is charged for and it is £3.50 per day. You can also buy weekly and monthly passes which do work out a lot cheaper so you can ask at the station.
Inside the station and you have two partitions where people serve the tickets. The people are very friendly here and will help you out with whatever you need. I have had many a chat with them while waiting for a train so it is a very friendly station.
The station is very clean and there are benches in this small waiting area. A fast track machine serves tickets if you are in a hurry and there is also a permit to travel machine so you will avoid all fines on the trains.
Then there is a small shop which sells lovely coffees for those early mornings, food and magazines. It is small but I have always managed to find what I need in there so not too bad really. The prices are the same as everywhere and not as high as some train station prices which is good.
Ok so we are going up to the platforms now. There are a couple of flights of stairs to walk up but there is also a lift there for anybody who needs it. Now everywhere in the station has just been painted and it is looked after so everywhere looks very clean and nice.
There are two platforms, one going to Longbridge and Redditch and the other going to Lichfield Trent Valley. I use platform two to get me to Birmingham New Street which is about a forty minute journey so not that bad at all.
On the platforms you will find a small waiting room which seats eight people and plenty more to stand. Then there are three toilets and a disabled toilet which are all cleaned regularly. Everywhere on the station you will find televisions telling you when trains are due so you cant really go wrong. Announcements come up anyway if any delays are there.
Then you have various benches dotted around so you can sit down and then you have a bike rack so if you cycle to the station you can lock your bikes up.
All in all the station is how you imagine any station but it is a nice one. It is manned from the very first train to the very last so I always feel very safe there which of course is a great feeling. The staff are friendly, it is close to Lichfield centre and there is plenty of parking. You can't really ask for much more.
