"Being quite local I often spend a few hours wandering along Holkham beach. Because of the proximity to Wells-next-the-Sea, it's easy to just wander along the paths and trails through the pinewoods to Holkham and back. What's even better is once you get to Holkham beach, if you head for Holkham village by travelling up Lady Ann's Drive, you can stop at the Victoria pub for the most fantastic outdoor barbecue.
If you're with a vehicle, there's ample parking on Lady Ann's Drive, though it's private land and there's a parking charge. In 2005 it was two pounds; this may well increase.
Your alternative is to hope some of the parking spaces opposite the Victoria are free, but access is required for some disabled residents and you're not always able to get in there.
Oh, and if birdwatching is your thing, then travelling west through the woods at the back of the beach will bring you to some cunningly placed hides where you can watch seabirds on one side and marsh birds on the other."
