"The Forbidden Corner is the only place I have ever visited that is as much fun for the grown ups as it is for the kids and I think this is because it is the only place I have ever visited that reminds me what life was like when everything was new and my day was full of surprises and adventures. There are so many discoveries in these gardens that you could never guess them all and I really don't want to spoil them for you.
To give you a taste there are underground rooms with fantastic finds in them; locked gates where you have to hunt for the keys; mazes and revolving floors. All the fuel you need to fire up young imaginations and inspire children to find out what happens next.
We spent all day there and still felt like we hadn't seen everything. There is something for all ages, some parts may be frightening to very young children but it should be easy to distract them with another adventure. There are beautiful natural views with viewing stations where you can admire the deer in the park.
There is ample space to enjoy a picnic with seated and grassed areas or, if you prefer, a cafe on site along with a shop to buy souvenirs. Alternatively, there are some good cafes in the local village.
It has seasonal opening times but is open everyday during a good part the year and only Sundays for certain other periods.
A very important thing to remember is that you must book your tickets in advance by telephone. Their website has all the information you need or you can ask at Leyburn Tourist Information Centre.
I haven't stopped recommending this day out since I visited last year. If you have the opportunity, I really hope you visit and enjoy it as much as I did. It is reasonably priced, engaging and really good fun.
