"Byron's ancestral home has to be my favourite place in Nottinghamshire.
It's 12 miles to the north of Nottingham on the A60 to Mansfield. At £17.50 for a family of 5 to visit the house and gardens, and £9.50 for a family for the gardens alone, it is very good value. All details on pricing and how to get there are available on the website.
The house itself is lovely, but for me the gardens are what are worth visiting the most. Take a picnic and sit by one of the ponds. Watch for pike rising and admire the peacocks. Children will love wandering about all the paths in the Japanese Garden and Rockery, and there's plenty of room for them to run around without causing any bother.
You can even get married there, just think of the wedding photographs."
