"Foxton locks in on the Grand Union canal. From Foxton you can hire boats, go for a lovely meal, purchase an icecream or simply take a walk.
I was just reading up on Foxton locks following a spur of the moment trip there last weekend. It was a lovely spring morning and we found it in our best walks book. A small warning, locks by nature are there to help boats up and down steep inclines. My husband walks with a stick but still managed to get up and down the locks hill. We spent 4 hours there in all. It's marvellous to sit and watch the people in their canal boats working their way through each lock systematically. There is a pub there, the Foxton Locks inn. We never went inside but I am told it's delightful. We bought an icecream from a small shop and that was find for us. There is lottery funded building work going on at present which can only make the place an even better place to visit. I suggest you take a walk along the canal - slightly away from the crowds. Here you'll find the more relaxing areas where fishermen while away the afternoons. Car parking (at time of writing) The main car park is near the top of the locks. * Cars £1.50 per visit * Minibus £5 per visit * Coach £7 per visit" | |
