"High end Indian cuisine at it's finest this is a firm favourite with my BF's family so we eat here on a regular basis. A pleasant experience although not one of my favourite Indian restaurants to his families disgust.
Let's start by reliving my first dining experience at this restaurant, rewind 3.5 years ago. I have been dating my BF for just a few weeks when we get invited to the Agra for a meal with his family whom I am yet to meet, after much persuasion we agree but on the date my BF ends up having to work late so can not make the meal and I have no excuse good enough to get out of the meeting. We arrive and the restaurant seems very pretty and plenty of parking which is a big bonus, you immediately hear and feel the buzz when you enter into the bar area which is usually full of couples, groups and families enjoying a few drinks and nice conversations before dinner. We take a seat and a glass of red wine appears in my hand and disappears again very quickly as I am slightly nervous having dinner with a family I have never met before. The wine is stunning here and I enjoyed plenty of it before we was even seated at our table. The restaurant is very pretty with partitions to make it feel more intimate but it does feel like they have crammed a lot of tables into the area, the table we was at was under a dome lit with twinkling lights, very pretty but I noticed as the conversation started that the dome reflected the noise and I really struggled to hear what was being said to me at the other end of the table (not great for a first meeting) The starters where and always are lovely and make sure you order plenty of poperdoms although I don't really like the fact that you have to pay for them in this standard of restaurant. The best bit if you are a fish lover is the fish counter and menu and some of these dishes really are spectacular but unfortunately by this point the wine had started to take it's toll and mixed with the spicy food was not going down well at all. Unfortunately I was unwell before I even got chance to finish dessert and my BF's farther kindly offered to drive me home…… A little embarrassing but I am now over this and have been going back now on a regular basis for the last 3.5 years. The food really is top, top quality although some dishes I find try to be a little too fancy when all I want is nice traditional curry but Fish dishes are always out of this world and for people wanting to push the boat out there are lobster options. I struggle with the acoustics here but if you request a table in a corner or toward the side of a room rather than the middle then this is not too much of a problem. If you are a regular or want to become a regular then it may be worth getting a loyalty card as we get a discount off the bill on each visit. The place does have a buzz which can make a great dining experience sometimes but other times I find it quite hectic and would much prefer a more intimate setting. If this is the case though food can be ordered and collected so you can enjoy the good quality food in the quiet setting of your own home we have done this option on several occasions. Great service always. Main courses are between £8 - £15 so it can be a pricey night by the time you add on starters, drinks, side etc but the quality is very high so worth every penny. Open Monday – Friday 5:30 – 11:30 and Sunday 4:30 – 10:30" | |
