"The Turtley Corn Mill is one of those rare places where you can enjoy wonderful home made traditional cooking and then relax for the remainder of the afternoon without feeling you are intruding on the pub's welcoming nature.
You can catch up with what's happening in the world by reading a variety of newspapers on the comfy leather sofas, enjoy coffee in the peace and quiet of the upper dining room next to a state of the art fire or take a wander around the lake and into the fields by the river where you can wear out the dog and the children. The landscaped garden is delightful and children can enjoy the giant chess and jenga sets or feed the ducks while you catch up with friends and family. The Turtley Corn Mill is a regular haunt of mine where I take business colleagues, friends or family as I know delicious food is guaranteed as well as friendly and welcoming staff who have achieved that happy medium of not being over attentive but being there just enough to ensure dining is a wholly pleasurable experience. Food at the Turtley is all sourced locally including veg from the Nearly Naked Veg Company, meat from Moostone Farm and fish from Plymouth market. There's real ale on tap and a selection of interesting wines. I recently had smoked mackerel with horse radish to start which was just enough without feeling too full. My partner had the black puddinghash cake with apple puree not something you'd normally think would go together but it was good. Then it was on to the Moostone Wembury sausage, mash and loadsa of gravy good comforting pub grub which was delicious. The Tall Man had the haddock (from Plymouth) deep fried in Tamar real ale batter yum! I was full up by this stage, but was able to order a desert, sticky toffee pudding with sticky toffee sauce and cream, and take it away with me. The Tall Man had some really very good Westcountry cheeses. The four en-suite bedrooms are really cosy, and I recently recommended a well-travelled colleague who said it was one of the most comfortable rooms he has stayed in with a huge bed complete with duck down quilt. Every need is catered for and there's even an honesty fridge with wine and refreshments on the landing. Breakfast at the Turtley Corn Mill is a sumptuous affair, from a traditional fry up to toast and jam. If I didn't live so close I'd stay there often just as a special treat! The Turtley Corn Mill has been a real find for me and I will continue to rave about it and recommend it to friends and colleagues for as long as I am given such a warm welcome and such good food to eat." | |
