"The Bygones Museum at Holkham is a fascinating day out. We were amazed at the huge collection of objects dating from Victorian times through to the 1950s. There are apparently over four thousand exhibits, and I can well believe it! The mechanical toys and vintage cars fascinated the children, and there are even things like steam engines to marvel at.

The whole museum is in the old stables and is right next to Holkham Hall, which is very well signposted around the local area, not far from Wells-next-the-Sea. It's not overly expensive at £5.00 for adults and £2.50 for children, and it's possible to buy a family ticket for £25 which covers the usual two adults and two children. If you fancy looking round the hall, which we didn't, you can buy a combined ticket at £10 for adults and £5 for the kids. The history of farming exhibition is free, so you can always check out the farm machinery and then take a walk down to the lake if you're looking for a cheaper day out.

The museum opens only on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 12:00 until 5:00 during the summer season. The hall opens at 1:00. There's also a cafe and parking is free, though it can be busy and difficult to find a space."
