SouthernessDumfries, Dumfriesshire, Scotland Dumfries & GallowayRecommendation added: 14/02/2006 20:24 By: mupp1962 (YSUK rating +1) mupp1962 has been thanked 1 times for this contribution
"Southerness is a lovely little area about 12 miles away from Dumfries. There is a choice of places to stay ranging from a caravan site, to some lovely pubs and guest houses. The site has plenty of entertainment for children and adults and for adults it is mainly a good (so i am told) golf course and places to fish. There is a choice of places to visit all reached after driving through some beautiful scenery and never busy roads. Dumfries is a decent sized town, and it is easy to spend a day there, then there is the quieter area of Dalbeattie. There is a beach to let the children run free and a selection of local potters working out of village shops. If the weather holds, it is an ideal area to walk and just enjoy the views. If you enjoy old buildings there is the impressive ruin of Sweetheart Abbey. When we visited this there was the addition of a herd of amazing cattle roaming round. Apart from on the campsite I dont remember seeing any clubs, but plenty of choice for a quite drink in a country pub."
