Walking Along The RiverDurham TownDurham, England North East Review added: 14/02/2006 20:34 By: samtaz14 (£0.00 earned from reviews) Earn £££'s
"I can think of nothing more relaxing than walking by a riverside with my little terrier. The river at Durham has old stone steps leading down to it and a wonderful leafy area that shades from too much hot sun. There are benches which have been placed at various spots along the walk which give a pleasant respite for those of us not of the fit years. You can sit on these and watch the boats that generally younger people hire out and row along the river, and many times the university are practicing their rowing also.
For those of us who enjoy the wildlife there are ducks who are very obviously used to being fed along the banks, and I have on many occasions spotted a pair of black herons who come in to land and take fish from the water. Probably with more luck than the occasional fisherman you see along the way. Crossing the bridge to the other side is actually a road along which come cars and the view of Durham Cathedral is magnificent. All this a 20 minute bus ride from where I live with buses running every 15 minutes. I consider myself extremely fortunate to live where I do if only for this particular walk, but there are many such walks within the region." | |
