"Around four years ago my best friend from my teenage years located me on Friends Reunited, when we met again it was like we had never been apart, she had got married during that time and I had divorced and married again. Anyway, making up for lost time (15yrs to be precise), we started going out again. They enjoy regular camping trips, at that time they had a trailer tent, they suggested we join them on a break away, so we bought a folding camper and our camping trips started.

We went for a week at Meolfre View Caravan Park and have been back every year since (we both now have caravans and awnings). As I am from Shropshire and our friends the West Midlands it is not too far to travel with your caravan for a weeks break.

The site itself is fairly small taking approx 40 caravans and awnings on the one field, with another field to cater for tents.

Our visit here is a big family event, our friends' brother and his children come to stay for the weekend, our children sometimes join us for the weekend, my mother pops up for a day visit and we take the dog. We used to take both our Golden Retrievers, but unfortunately we lost our Bonnie this year. She used to love it here rolling in the sea barking her head off - she used to get so dirty but she was so happy. (Sorry digressed).

Back to the site - it offers centrally heated shower/toilet block which are free to use, you do need your own toilet paper (this is because children seem to take great fun in stuffing paper down the toilets and flooding them). A hairdryer is provided in the ladies and a shaving point in the men's. There is a mother and baby wash room provide in the ladies and a disabled toilet facility. The toilets are kept fairly clean, being cleaned twice a day. They do get a little messy during the day due to people not respecting them and generally just leaving a mess.

There is a laundrette and ironing facilities, the washroom for your washing up, electric hook ups, water points and waste disposal points.

Key fob entry in and out of the park which you pay a £10.00 deposit for and get that back at the end of your visit when you hand the key back, the same for the toilet key.

There is a nice little dog walk just opposite the park complete with bins to dispose of, well you know what I want to say.

On the site opposite with the static caravans there is a small shop and café which is open to everyone, the prices are very reasonable, we use this on the last day, we pack up, leave the caravan in situ then go for breakfast before setting off for the 3hr journey home.

About 50yds from the entrance to the site down the hill on the left is an arcade and takeaway - where you can buy steak, onions and gravy in a bap (highly recommended), foot long hot dog (with real sausage), chips and burgers, oh and also ice-cream. This is another site that has a swimming pool, a bar called Henry's, shops etc. There is a nice walk through this park taking you down to the beach.

A little further down from here on the right hand side is another caravan park, here you have another amusement arcade, a small supermarket that sells various foods fresh and convenient, toys, holiday things that you may need but forgot to pack, books, magazines, papers etc. The fish and chip shop can be found here serving obviously fish 'n' chips, kebabs, burgers, chicken etc. there is a seating area just away from the shop where you can sit and enjoy your food. Another Bar and little coffee shop. We found this a good place to stop after walking back up a big hill with soggy dogs after a play on the beach (will put a photo up of them).

The Beach -

This goes on for miles, there are certain sections where dogs are not allowed, but if you do take your dog there please clean up after them, you wouldn't want your children to come across some nasty surprises. There is also a nice walk down here just off the beach and still looking out to the sea where your dogs can run freely and get exercised.

The beach is kept fairly clean, this entrance though takes you down an incline of pebbles to get on, further down (the other entrance I mentioned earlier) is a smoother approach to the beach.

Now it is great walking down to the beach which is a 5min walk away from the site going down hill, but you do notice the walk back as it is a bit steep.

There is also a Sunday car boot sale and bank holiday Monday just across the road from the site.

Location

This family run park is situated in the Snowdonia National Park, overshadowed by the Ardudwy mountain range. It is on the A496 just out side of Barmouth towards Talybont.

Now if you use sat nav or auto route on the internet - be careful as there are 7 Talybont's in Wales, I daughter ended up in Conway about 45mins drive away using AA Auto route.

Please note this site is in the Welsh mountains so adjust your route accordingly if you are towing a caravan as the hills can be quite steep.

Out and about

Barmouth is only a few minutes down the road, once again you have the beach, there is Market held there on Saturday's and Wednesdays. Barmouth is a typical seaside town with loads of arcades, cafes, pubs, shops etc. You also have a couple of local supermarkets for stocking up throughout the week. There is a local Library with Internet Access (it is adviseable to book), for those of you who get Ciao withdrawal symptoms. There are a couple of really interesting shops there (well to me anyway), where they sell crystals etc, antiques shops and there is a specialist dolls house shop. Just out of town at the top of the hill is a camping shop if you encounter any problems with your equipment whilst you there. (That's camping equipment, the chemist will deal with the other he, he).

Further a field you could visit Harlech Castle, Portmeirion Italianate Village, Maes Artro Craft Village, Narrow George Railways and the Slate Caverns to name but a few places.

For you sporting people out there that like the outdoor life, there are local golf courses, Pony trekking, Barmouth Leisure Centre, a dry ski slope at Trawsfynydd.
There is a centre about 45 mins drive away past Harlech Castle (sorry I cannot remember the location, but it is advised in the tourist leaflets when you get there), where you can go quad biking and go-carting. This was the boys' fun day. Anyone seen Armageddon when they all work towards the ship with their helmets under their arms - well seeing the boys going to the bike here they just reminded me of that scene.

Conclusion

Well we love it here, one year we went out and about a lot and did the loads of shopping, sight seeing, quad biking etc. This year our first without our dog Bonnie, we chilled out, took our other dog Chloe for walks along the beach and just rested and enjoyed the relaxation.

I only have one gripe here and that is not against the park owners, but the guest who visit, this year the ladies door got stuck and so someone forced it open, from then during the week it got fixed two - three times and still someone broke it over and over again. I just wish people would take care of things.

Before I go I should mention that it seems the only mobile phones that get a good signal here are Vodaphone.

hi, we have been going to this camp site for about ten years now, we love it,we go every easter and september,and sometimes if we do not go abroad we go witsun week too,we go with a lot of friends and we have always had a great time,ther is everything on the site you need and only couple mins from the lovely beach wich is dog friendly, we are going this easter and we just can not wait for this holiday, this site is the sister site to sunnysands,that is a lovely site too, but we prefer this one, so anyone going ther will not be disappointed, hope you all have a nice holiday.
