"I work in an office in the City of London and like to walk around in my lunch break to get some fresh air and a bit of exercise. The other week I took a walk from my office (near Liverpool St. Station) down to the Tower of London and the river and after not visiting that area of the city for awhile, I was surprised at how nice it was to just walk around and 'potter'. So much so that it felt like I wasn't even at work anymore and that I had somehow become one of the few tourists who had ventured out on a cold January day, who all looked somewhat as surprised as myself at how pleasant it was in the sun. It was quite a chilly day but it was so sunny that there were quite a few tourists (and office workers) eating their lunch outside, either on one of the many benches dotted around or on the tables provided by a small coffee / sandwich kiosk by the river.
It was so pleasant to sit having a coffee looking at the imposing Tower of London, that we city workers so often take for granted and walk straight past every day, with the river Thames beside me gently lapping the embankment. They have really improved the forecourt and general area around the Tower of London and it looks clean, inviting and very smart. It had only taken me about 15 minutes to get there from my office, yet being so picturesque and relaxing, it felt miles away ! I would definitely recommend a walk to the Tower and along the embankment as an enjoyable - and free - way of spending a very pleasant afternoon !" | |
