"I have visited the Tickle Trout in Preston on two occasions. First one was for a conference, with an overnight stay, and the second was a social visit. For the social visit I booked the MacDonald Hotels ' 2 nights for 2 people: 2 evening meals and 4 breakfasts for £99'. And that included a 75cl bottle of Italian sparkling wine and a few chocolates in a dish. Which was lovely!
The Tickle Trout is very easily accessible by road. It is a quarter mile from the M6 and just off Preston New Road. It is around 3 miles from Preston train station.
The rooms at the Tickle Trout are a nice size and have all the amenities you come to expect from a decent hotel. They are also very clean. The only things with the room was that it was perhaps a little dark - better lighting needed - and the tea and coffee making stuff was really hard to find. It was actually hidden away in a drawer. The view from the bedroom was of the motorway, across a few fields and the river Ribble, but it was far enough away to be almost silent and didn't disturb sleep at all, even with the double-glazed window open all night. . It was wonderful to wake up to the sounds of the river right outside the window.
The conference facilities here are also very good. The staff are friendly, always on hand and/or easily reachable and nothing is too much trouble. Tickle Trout offers very good conferencing rates too, usually around £30-40 per head, which includes room hire, flip charts and use of their projector, teas and coffees and a buffet lunch.
The only thing that lets the Tickle Trout down a bit is the food - it is very expensive (around £12 just for breakfast!) if it's not included with your room booking! There isn't that much choice and although the food is of an OK standard, it's not anywhere near what you'd expect. The restaurant staff are, however, very friendly and the service is fast
This is a non smoking hotel and the only place you can smoke is in the main bar."
