"Crowle is situated 10 miles from Scunthorpe and about 25 miles from Sheffield. For people who have never been, it might seem like a stange destination to reccommend, but I can assure you, that after just one visit, you will want to move here at once! Crowle is a small village, home to a thousand or so residents. The people are friendly and full of character, and you will not find a better community spirit anywhere in the UK. A rural village, Crowle thrives on its small businesses, pubs and resturants. Heres the lowdown on the village of Crowle:
What To Do: Crowle itself has a lot to offer, you just need to find it and get involved. From quiz nights to bingo, football to trips to the seaside, its all here. yes, what Crowle has to offer is mainly aimed at the local residents, but the love and welcome outsiders with open arms to all the events they hold. Check out the notice boards in the local shops and the community centre for whats on. There is always loads of stuff advertised, just go along and I guarentee you will leave with new friends. Pub Life: The crowle villagers love their pubs, and there are plenty here for such a small village. The best one is the "Red House" and it is situated near Chapel Street, just outside the main village centre. Here, you can enjoy a whole host of different drinks, including Northern favourites like John Smiths Cask. The crowd at the Red House is always very friendly, and don't be put off by people having a chat with you. They love people from outside of Crowle, and love to have a talk. The other pubs in Crowle include the White Heart, The George and Dragon and Lock Stock. Lock Stock is ideal if you like real ales, as there is always a wide selection you have NEVER heard of - All Wonderful! If you are looking for more of a party atmosphere, with a younger crowd, then the George and Dragon is the place to go. The George has stacks of live entertainment. Where To Stay: Crowle itself does not have any guest houses or b+bs. Why not try camping in it's very own & lakes camping and caravan site? 7 Lakes Leisure. Situated just a 10 minute walk from the action, it is the ideal place to stay. It has the most beautiful surroundings, and you can also try the many watersport facilities it has to offer. If you don't want to camp, they also have hotel rooms from £39.50 per room. Also, the surrounding towns and villages all have places to stay, and the local bus service can take you right in to Crowle. Scunthorpe, the closest major city is only 10 minutes from Crowle, and has a host of Travelodges and other leading hotel chains. Where To Eat: Many of Crowles pubs offer delicious food, and very good prices. Try the White Heart. Homecooked meals, an amazing menu, and foods you could never amagine, like crocodile (Varies). Otherwise, for that traditional pub meal, try the Red house. If you want takeaway, there is a Bali House, Kebab Shop and 2 fish and chip shops, both of equal excellence. Where To Visit: If you don't fancy taking part in the community activities, then venture outside of Crowle. It is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding towns and villages. Try Doncaster, Sheffield and Scunthorpe. Get a train from Crowle Train Station to the famous city of York. There really is so much to get out of your visit. Walking: Just outside of Crowle (15 min drive) you will find Normandy Park. Set in acres of beautiful parkland, there is room for a kick about with the kids (with a football that is!), a reaxing walk through the forest followed by a cup of tea in the tea rooms. About 25 minutes from Crowle, is Skegness. Walk along the coast, play in the many amusement arcades - the real seaside experience. Getting There: Crowle is situated just outside scunthorpe, come off the M180 just before Scunthorpe, signposted Goole. From the M1, get off at signpost M18 then M180. Really simple journey (of course depending on where you live!) Overall: Just give it a try. I sure love the place, and I think you will too." Was this recommendation useful?
