"On the way back from Cornwall me and my family decided to stop off at Cheddar Gorge, as we had seen sign posts on the way down. It was a fantastic day, exhilarating, much better then I at first thought.
For those of you who are unaware of what Cheddar Gorge is, it's a series of caves. There are three caves, very large, and with many different things to look at. There are stalactites and stalagmites, as well as looking at the different patterns the limestone has caused in the caved over many years. There is another cave that is very inciting and interesting, this is where you can go in and try to find the crystal ball. There are skeletons and other things along the way, it's like a children's cave, to keep them happy, and so this really is a family day out.
There are exhibitions showing the history of the caves, and a quaint little shop, where you can buy cheeses and breads. A great shop for a place like this.
When traveling though the caves, you can get a personal tour, as you can get an electronic speaking device that you can place around your neck. There is a Childs tour and an adult's tour. The adults tour talking on more serious notes, such as the forming of the cave, and the Childs tour slightly more hearted, explaining the legend and famous 'panther' that appears as a shadow on the wall. A great touch for a great place!
There is a cafe here too, as well as many different tea shops.
There is a great walk up the mountainside, where you can go on set out walks, a great feature for the summer. We went all the way to the top, where there was a tower, and when up there, could see over the whole of the town. This really was one of the most amazing and brilliant sites.
What's more, your tickets last for ten years, so if you don't visit everything that day, you can come back in a decade. WOW!
There is ample parking, so this really is a day out everybody will enjoy!
