Isle of South Uist FISHINGIsle Of South Uist, Inverness-shire, Scotland Highland, Argyll and ButeRecommendation added: 20/03/2006 20:17 By: jsimons128 (YSUK rating +93) jsimons128 has been thanked 1 times for this contribution
"This island arguably has some of the very best sea trout fishing available in Britain. Lochs Roag, Fada, Bharp and Lower Kildoran are amongst the best sites. The sea trout are salmon fishings-in freshwater at any rate-are held in private hands but hotels can sometimes arrange fishing if early inquires are made. The estuary pools, below the low water line, can be productive for the casual sea trout visitor. Brown trout fishing in South Uist-much easier to obtain-can be phenomenol. There are dozens of first class lochs dotted about but those lying along the sandy west coast stip of land known as the machair are undoubtadly the best most of the time. These include Bernish and upper Kildonan, two shallow alkaline waters which prodcue hard-fighting trout. Salmon are not found in any great numbers in the Isle of South Uist waters although there are trickels here and there. Loch a'Bharp, close to the Lochboisdale hotel, is the only salmon water of real note with spring as well as summer fish. At the top of the Isle of South Uist lies Loch Bee, a remarkably shallow loch for its extensize size-on its day it can be superb."
