"This is the second of my haunted UK guides, giving you an insight into the most frightening places in the UK. As an amateur ghost enthusiast, I have visited many locations in the England and Wales said to be 'haunted' - And in general, I have found nothing out of the ordinary. But there are 5 or 6 locations I will be reviewing where I would encourage the ghost fans, curious and sceptics alike to visit. You might just be surprised.

This time, I would love to share my spooky experiences of Thetford Warren Lodge. My guide aims to give you all the details, including where to find it and what to expect. Not for the feint hearted!

LOCATION
Thetford Warren Lodge is situated between Thetford and Brandon, Norfolk, along the B1107. From Cambridge, take the A11. When on the B1107, pass the golf course and look for the car park on your left. For a map, see www.multimap.co.uk or get a route from the AA, or any other leading auto route provider

WHAT IS IT
Warren Lodge is a beautiful 15th century building, which was once used to farm rabbits in mass numbers. It is a two-story building, and was built for the Prior of Thetford warreners. Made of flint, the building has survived over 600 years. It is also rumoured to have once been a leper house and the location of a leper hospital.

THE GHOSTLY EXPERIENCE
my wife, a good friend of mine and myself visited the lodge in November last year. We heard about ghostly sightings and noises from a ghost hunters website, that I am a member of. As soon as we read about it, we knew we had to visit. It was about 9pm when we arrived, very dark outside, and extremely eerie. There was not a person in sight, and the only noises to be heard was that of bats or birds fluttering in the trees. Too scared to approach the lodge, we positioned ourselves about 10 metres away, just in sight. Within 5 minutes, we had out first scare. Both myself, and my friend saw a white object in the doorway of the lodge (just an opening where a door once was) which disappeared. We ran back to the car, not knowing what to think. 15 minutes later, my brave wife decided to go a bit closer, but could not see anything there at all. We could not link this sighting to anything we previously heard about, but it turns out a white rabbit haunts the building (but previous sightings have claimed the rabbit has a bright red glow from its eyes, which we did not see) There have been several sightings on the paranormal database (www.paranormaldatabase.com) It could be a coincidence, but who knows. It was a good hour and a half before anything else was seen, or heard. At this point, we were sitting down, within a couple of metres of the property. The lodge has several windows. I happened to look up at one at the bottom of the building, and saw a face was poking out. I told my wife and friend, and they both confirm someone, or something was there. It stayed for about 30 seconds, before going back inside, and out of sight. We now believe (although we are not sure) it was a prankster or pub drunk playing a trick. Someone run out the doorway into the distance, whilst we ran in the other direction towards the car. It seemed to unreal for all three of us to see the same thing, and the fact someone was running off, rather than disappearing seems weird. We did not have the courage to enter the property, so we stayed in the car, with the windows open, so we could listen out for any unusual sounds. 15 minutes later, my friend all of the sudden had an attack of panic, and just said to drive away and leave it there. To this day, he does not know why he wanted to get away so quickly, but he says that something in his mind just wanted him to go quickly. Maybe is was fear and paranoia taking over! We were driving for about two minutes, and the left car headlight went out. Again, could just be a coincidence, but it's the first time it happened in our new car. There is defiantly something strange about the lodge, and as a group, will soon be making another visit. On arrival home, we logged our experiences on the paranormal sightings website. There are around 100 different sightings on the internet of strange goings on here. Other sightings include the white rabbit (as previously mentioned) a woman, a nasty looking person (believed to be a leper who haunts the area) and screams. Yes, it was very frightening, but that's what we love. If we went, and nothing at all happened, we would be very disappointed.

WHAT TO TAKE FOR YOUR VISIT
A Torch - AN ABSOLUTE MUST. Do not leave without one!
AT LEAST 2 PEOPLE. Do not go alone or as a couple.
Food and drink
A sound recorder and video camera (if available)
A reliable car, which starts first time (trust me)

WANT TO MAKE THINGS EVEN MORE FRIGHTNING?
Stay at the Bell Hotel King Street, Thetford. Haunted by two ghosts, 'Busy Radcliff' and a monk. I have not personally stayed here before, but the paranormal website I am a member of 'highly recommends it' Telephone: 01842 754455. Even if you don't plan to stay, have a drink in the bar. They also host regular murder mystery nights (if you dare!)

FEAR RATING
5/5. Although we only had a few 'scare moments' they were more intense than any other we have ever experienced.

WARNING
I must stress that you DO NOT GO ALONE. It's not worth it, as brave as you might think you are. Next time we go, I will be taking at least FOUR people. Do not attempt to visit if you are easily frightened, afraid of open spaces/being in the middle of know where. DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDING alone, and check with the local council if you are actually even allowed to enter. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!"
