"If you are visiting Perranporth, or any of its surrounding areas in Cornwall, at some stage you're likely to want to visit a pubic house. There are many pubs in Cornwall of exceptional quality, but the New Inn stands out from the crowd. Cosy, relaxing and friendly are three words that could be used to describe this place. Ideal for those who want to have a quiet relaxing drink, away from the crowded pubs, The New Inn has a lot to offer, which I will tell you about now, in my handy guide:
LOCATION
The New inn is situated on the outskirts of Perranporth, a beautiful seaside resort in Cornwall. From Perranporth, follow signs for Goonhavern. The New Inn is on your left as you enter the village (you can't miss it)
THE PUB ITSELF
The New Inn is a beautiful large stone building, with adjacent beer garden. It has an old fashioned, traditional feel about it, but at the same time has modern equipment like a plasma screen television and digital. There is around 15 tables, and seating for up to 75 people or so. The pub itself can hold around 150. Set in the pretty, quiet village of Goonhavern, the pub is loved by locals and tourists alike.
DRINKING
There is a very good selection of drinks on offer at the New Inn, including 3 real ales available at all times. The last time I visited, all ales were locally produced and of an exceptional standard. Other than this, on the draught are Guinness, 3 lagers (varying) and Stongbow cider. If you are a spirit drinker, then the New Inn has many different types of Vodka, Whiskey and other liqueurs, including house spirits. A huge selection of ice cold soft drinks await you too, including favourites like Coca Cola © and Schweppes Lemonade too J20 and Britvic 55. Lastly, for the wine drinkers, the New Inn has an ample wine list, with various red, white and roses wines to suit all tastes and pockets.
ENTERTAINMENT
The pub itself has a separate room, containing a new pool table and dartboard. Pool is 50p per game, and darts are free (but a donation can be made to charity) Also, there are 2 fruit machines costing 30p per play (£25 Jackpot) and cards/dominoes are available from behind the bar. On a Saturday, the New Inn has its own quiz night. 75 questions, £1 per team, and three prizes, including Sunday lunches. During the quiz, a raffle also takes place. The winning ticket gets the chance to put their hand in the bag, and pick a ball out. Various prizes are given including the jackpot (up to £200) and the dummy prize, a packet of crisps. Although mainly locals take part in the quiz, tourists are welcomed and encouraged to join in the fun. No cheating though! Mobile phones are banned during the quiz, and offenders will be disqualified. During the summer months, other events happen, including music events. Call for more details on this seasons schedule.
FOOD
The New Inn is renowned in the area, for providing home cooked, delicious quality meals, using local produce at all times. From the great British sirloin steak with chips, to a Sunday lunch buffet, the new inns menu is truly exceptional. Vegetarians are well catered for, with 3 or 4 dishes offered, and a separate children's menu is sure to keep the kids happy. Booking is advisable during peak periods, as they do get very busy, I would highly recommend you try the Steaks, they are by far the best in the area.
ATMOSPHERE
Off peak, the pub consists of 99% local residents, and 1% outsiders. During peak season, it works out around 50/50. The local residents are all friendly characters, and usually make good conversation with people they do not recognise. The staff are very friendly, and happy to assist with any needs you may have.
OTHER INFORMATION
Smoking is allowed, but there is a no smoking area.
Dogs welcome in the beer garden, and quiet small dogs in the pub
Children welcomed in the beer garden and the pub until 9pm
SUMMER EVENT
During the summer, the New Inn really comes alive, and the beer garden is properly opened. A separate bar is usually set up (whether depending) so you can soak up the sun, without having to walk far for a drink. They also have barbecues and a real party atmosphere.
