"Perranporths sandy beach is one of the finest in Britain and its-odd shaped rocks help to make it one of the most interesting. It is also very family friendly and there is so much space available. However, this town can also provide more sport than many larger resorts-where else, for instance, can you go surfing, sand yachting and gliding within a few miles?
The Polder novels are all set in Cornwall and nowhere is the association stronger than at Perranporth, for most of the books in the series were actually written here.
Much of the writing was done from a house in St Michaels Road that the author, Winston Graham, brought from Donald Healey, the motor magnate. The north Cornish coast provided the inspiration for many books. For instance, Ross Polders home, Nan Para, was named after an area of Perrneporth while Transit, the Polder family home, is based on Terrace, a national trust manor house.
Just outside the town are the ruins of the 6th century St Iran's church that lay under the sand dunes for nearly 400 years. Alas, there is little of interest remaining, except to keep student, like I was all those years ago. Although much smaller than say New quay, Perranporth has all the amenities you would expect to find in a resort of this size."
