"This is the second of my food guide reviews, telling you the top places to eat, in my favourite areas of the UK. This time comes Perranporth, situated in the beautiful county of Cornwall. It seemed natural I should do a food guide on Perranporth, as it is a popular location for tourists. If its the place to eat - you will find it here. Don't visit Perranporth without printing this page!
Price Guide: £ = Low Cost ££ = Mid Range £££ = Expensive TOP CURRY HOUSE ££ Jaipur Indian Cuisine 35 St.Pirans Road Perranporth Tel: 01872-573625 Location: On the high street, clearly visible! This curry house is by far the best in Cornwall. It has a fantastic reputation by locals and tourists alike, for offering the best quality food, with reasonable prices. When I visit my family in Perranporth, a visit to the Jaipur is a must. The restaurant itself is well furnished, with a cosy and warm atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, and the service second to none. The menu has a vast selection of Indian delights, freshly prepared to order. My personal favourite of the Jaipur is the Lamb Rogan Josh, quite simply one of the best I have ever had. All meat dishes contain the most tender of meats, and are cooked to perfection. For the vegetarians, there is a good range of meals available, and they will not be disappointed. There is a good selection of drinks here too, with Kingfisher served from the tap. Bottles of other Indian beers are also available, as are spirits, lagers and soft drinks. The cost of a meal out here is reasonable, expect to pay £35-£45 for a table of two, for a starter, main course, side and rice including drinks. TOP PUB FOOD £ The New Inn Goonhavern Nr Perranporth Tel: 01872 573326 Location: Signposted from Perranporth, follow signs to goonhavern. This pub is of exceptional quality, and is away from the crowds (although it does get busy in the summer months still!) But lets concentrate on the food. All of your pub favourites feature on the menu, and some you might not expect. All food is served in a good timely fashion, and is all cooked fresh to order. for the kids, they have a wide range of favourites, like chicken nuggets and healthy options too. Equally equipped to cater for vegetarians, the menu will not disappoint. You will see from my other reviews, that I rates this pub highly too as a drinking establishment, so a visit here is a 2 in 1! bonus! TOP CAFE/LIGHT LUNCH £ The Hard Drive Cage 34 St Pirans Road Perranporth Tel: 01872 572006 Location: On the main street again, clearly visible This is another 2 in 1 location. You can check your email and surf the internet, whilst enjoying a delicious sandwich, pasty or just a coffee. Modern in design, the Hard Drive cafe will appeal to young and old. They have an excellent choice of snacks and drinks, to tempt all. Expect to pay £5 for 30 minutes internet access, a coffee and a snack. TOP RESTURANT ££ Del-Mar St Georges Hill Perranporth Tel: 01872-572878 Location: Near The Tywanhayle pub, just off the main street. The Del Mar is an Italian restaurant with a real twist. All food is cooked to genuine Italian style, but local Cornish ingredients are always used. The food itself is of amazing quality, and the restaurant is well renowned in the area. It can get busy, so book in advance. Italian favourites, such as Spaghetti Bolognaise and garlic bread can be found here, as well as some surprises, which vary time to time. A definite must, for a nice evening out. The inside of the building is relaxed, and modern in design, with an element of Modern Italy. TOP TAKE AWAY/LATE NIGHT FOOD £ Pizzamania 37 St. Georges Hill, Perranporth Tel: 01872 573721 Location: Close to the Tywanhayle pub and the Del Mar Restaurant above This is the only take away I use in Perranporth, because the food is always of high quality, steaming hot and delicious in taste. Pizzamania, Perranporths only proper Pizza take away spot, has a great selection of Pizza, for take away and delivery. Also, the menu features other fast food, such as chips, and the usual high calorie suspects. A definite treat though, especially after a night on the town" | |
