"Oh I do like to be beside the seaside...
Nowhere else in Scotland could you find such peace and quite, breath-taking scenery and nice, friendly people.
I used to visit Portpatrick with my family from the age of 1 right up until my last holiday with my parents which was at the age of 15. It started off as spending a couple of weeks every summer in our caravan to trying to experience all sorts of accommodations whenever there was a school holiday. I simply loved Portpatrick when I was younger (well, only 3 years ago I was 15) and in all the other holidays I've been on, it's been difficult to compare as Portpatrick is such a unique place to stay.
On my last visit with my parents we stayed in the newly built G+S cottages, fully equipped with 2 televisions, a huge kitchen, a large double bedroom and a bedroom with 2 single beds, 2 bathrooms and a large sitting/living area. It even had a big patio out the back where you could sit and relax with no-one to bother you.
The village was just a short – 5 minute - walk away where you'd find a host of top quality pubs and seaside restaurants. The popular town of stranraer is just a 10 minute drive away where there's a variety of shops and supermarkets to be found. Here you'll also find the famous StenaLine ferry terminal where you can ride the world's fastest passenger ferry and reach Belfast in just under 100 minutes.
As I had such an enjoyable experience last time, I decided this would be an ideal place to take my Girlfriend for her birthday in March 2006. We stayed in a cottage adjacent to the one previously where we were met with the same great facilities, but only this time updated – A larger television, a DVD player in place of a video player, and more kitchen appliances (which I found great use for!!).
We ate in the award-winning Crown hotel for her Birthday meal which was fantastic, loads of food and great service. It was raining for much of the weekend so we spent a lot of time indoors – this was no bad thing as there was plenty to do and plenty of space (so we weren't getting on each others nerves too much!!).
On the Saturday we went to stranraer which was nice, it stayed dry for much of the day and just rained later on, and on the Sunday we took the early sailing to Belfast (clocks went forward so it was extremely early) and spent a very enjoyable day in Ireland.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our time in Portpatrick, especially as we were staying in a terrific cottage, and we're planning on going back at the end of summer."
