"How many times have you sat in horrendous traffic jams, struggled to find a parking place then ended up not being able to find what you're looking for because of queues or simply having to park too far away from where you wanted to go? This used to happen to me all the time, until I discovered the wonders and convenience of Braehead Shopping Centre.
Located right in the very heart of West Central Scotland - easily accessible by car, bus and even waterbus - Braehead is a shopper's paradise.
Parking is extremely easy, with a 3 story car park capable of holding 6500 cars free of charge, it's no wonder so many people are starting to pick Braehead over a trek into town.
For me it only takes 10 minutes to reach by car, I find myself going all the time just to pick up odds and ends that I'd normally never think of bothering with the journey into town for. You'll find all the latest designer clothes at shops like Topshop, RiverIsland, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Gap, H+M etc. Electrics and entertainment is covered too. In fact, every single item you could possibly desire can be found at Braehead.
If you take the kids, there's usually entertainment taking place in the centre square of the centre. Often when I've visited the Scottish Rocks basketball team has been there, offering free family tickets for games (which take place in the Braehead Arena) and all sorts of prizes. Unfortunately these competitions are exclusively open for children...shame!
Once you're finished shopping you can visit the foodcourt where you'll find food outlets catering for every taste bud. Be in a coffee and cake in Costa, some chicken from KFC, a buffet from Pizza Hut or even a 3 course meal from MaPotters, you'll find it all quite satisfying.
Not only is the shopping centre handy, you'll also find famous store Ikea just a couple of minutes drive away. If you've never been to Ikea before I fully recommend it, with so many quality items at great prizes, it's worth a walk around.
Just opened at Braehead is the brand new complex 'Xscape'. I went with a group of friends to visit a couple of days ago and I must say, it looks outstanding. With an indoor snow-slope (with real snow!!), rock-climbing, a 12-screen Odeon cinema, a bowling alley, shops and top-quality restaurants, this really is going to be one of THE places to visit this year.
When we went, not everything was opened as of yet. Everything I've mentioned except for the cinema was opened however much was yet to come, with crazy golf, a soccer room, a robotic-arm rollercoaster and a license to stay open until 3AM, I can definitely see many a night in summer being spent here.
All in all Braehead really is a great place to visit, there's not many other places in the UK that you can go where you can do all that's there. If you're planning a trip I think it would take at least a few days to experience it all, but it would certainly be more than worthwhile.
