"This pub used to be a Blacksmiths, hence the title, it is a quaint little pub set in the picturesque village of Errol. The pub is located in the village centre and is considered by some, the village's hub. The pub itself has many quirky features inlcuding an old hearth which was used when it was a blacksmiths, this is used to heat the pub, and it has little souvenirs from this time, including old irons and lanterns, and old scenic pictures of Errol High street. The pub offers a wide selection of drinks and also offers food, all at reasonable prices. They have a set menu but also have a specials board on every night, for something a bit different. It is a cosy pub, it is quite small inside, so you seem a bit closer to evryone surrounding you but not in an unpleasant way. The service is excellent, the staff and punters are friendly and it's a lovely traditional atmosphere. They allow children of all ages into the pub for food and since the smoking ban came into place, it's been a whole lot nicer to eat there. I urge you to check it out if you're ever in the area.

Comments Submitted by Les Carnie on Wednesday, 7th December 2011, 1:13pm I'm planning a photographic history of my life and will be visiting Errol in January. We used to live in Errol from about 1958-62 and I attended Errol Junior School. We lived at The Cross and also Dalally Crescent. My mum had a haberdasherie in the village for a short while and my dad worked at the garage as a mechanic. Happy times. We'll definitely be visiting The Old Smiddy while we're there for a pint and bite, so look forward to seeing you in January.Submitted by norma mcclintic on Sunday, 11th October 2009, 6:08pm I visit Errol, steeped in wonderful memories of having grown up there, and find it delightful to be able to have a meal at the Old Smiddy. We didn't have a restaurant back then but I did have several "fish n' chips"!! Some friends who know that is my home village have eaten with you too. From an ex-pat in USA. Submitted by Alan Magnus-Benn on Tuesday, 25th August 2009, 6:09pm I shall in all probability be moving to Errol in the near future. The fact that it has what sounds like a very traditional pub will make my retirement there a lot easier!
