"We stayed at Penpont Caravan and Camping Park, which is just a short cycle from the birthplace (and grave) of the inventor of the pedal cycle, Kirkpatrick Macmillan in Kier Mill (ask at Penpont tea room for directions, tell Debbie that Jan sent you!). The camping park has basic facilities and the owners are very friendly and helpful. You can use this as a base to explore some of the mountain bike routes known as 7 Stanes. All in all, this is a simple basic holiday which doesn't cost the earth and is well recommended. The nearby town of Thornhill has good facilities (bank, supermarkets, pubs, restaurants) and the people are all very friendly and helpful."
