"Reading the leaflet made this sound like a good place to spend a few hours, it promised a Victorian village and 2 tours of the slate mines. Deep mine tour is at an extra cost.
The reality was very disappointing. The Victorian Village consists of 5 buildings
The first building split into 2 shops, one selling sweets the other selling themed items. There is a cottage of a blind harpist in which you get to look through a window while listening to the story about her. You can look into the window of an old toilet, look into what was a blacksmiths with tools left to rust and a wall covered with graffiti from visiting school kids, also you can look through the windows of a bank. There is also a pub which seems to be more modern would not be classed as part of the village.
The first tour involves a small train, it runs every 30 minutes, however the alternate tours are reserved for group booking mostly from schools. This tour was ok and the guide was very informative with his answers to questions. The tour lasts 30 min with some sections where you exit the train to view 3 sections in the mine.
The second tour is a walking tour of the lower slate mine, this involves a walk ½ a mile below ground and involves details of the life of a 12 year old boy who worked in the mines. This tour had been cancelled when I visited due to refurbishment of the lower mine, it seems to be the best part of the attraction so I would advise anyone thinking of visiting to only go when this part has reopened."
