Not just a day out for Dad...RAF Museum CosfordAttraction (General) in/near Telford, Shropshire (Inc Birmingham), England Heart Of Inc Birmingham Review added: 28/05/2006 15:58 By: igotastaff (£0.00 earned from reviews) Earn £££'s
"Well a while ago as the time approched for the half term I sat there wondering where we could take the kids. Now if anyone is like me I always try to find the cheapest and most interesting place to take the kids and you can't get better than RAF Museum Cosford.
Now of course Dad was really happy about going but the kids were more dubious. With moans and groans about how boring it would be and there be nothing for them to do.But undaunted off we set with a picnic and good walking shoes. Being only 30 minutes from Birmingham it is very easy to find and well sign posted ,admission is FREE to all except when a show is on (Please check the website for details of these ,they are well worth a look also and very good value for money). They are open from 10 - 6 daily but the last admission is at 4.00pm.There are extra wide paths for easy access for wheelchairs and pushcahirs .Wheelchairs can be pre-booked for use on the day. There is a flight simulator on site but tickets must be paid for seperately at the visitor centre. As you enter through the visitor centre the toilets are just on your left and there is a nice engine on display and a bi-plane above. If you like that sort of thing.Walk through to the first hangar whilst walking past many static displays. In nice weather some are open for viewing. In the hangars you will find many wonderful displays of aircraft , weapons ,rockets , vehicles and various collections from all eras. The kids will love the Fun and Flight section in the hangar and will find out many new things and discover a lot about flight in a fun and educational way. There are three hangars in total cramed full of things to see. There is a picnic area which I recommend because although the on site restaurant is very nice it can be a bit pricey. So make full use of the picnic area. The shop has many gifts for the kids and adults most are reasonably priced and lots of pocket money gifts for the kids. During the holidays there is usually some activity for the kids taking place all free and well organised.I have been on several occasions since our first visit and the kids look forward to it every time now. Dad is always happy to go . I hope you enjoy it to....." | |
Comments Submitted by dewberry This sounds a great idea for a day out closer to Fathers Day, I know my fella would love this place - and we're in North Birmingham so I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find.YSUK Rating +1341 on Sunday, 28th May 2006, 5:27pm Isn't it amazing when you find one of these free admission places, being as most attractions seem to charge the earth these days.
