"This little gem is an RSPB nature reserve. There are two paths which start from the car park. Path One is known as the Nixon trail. It is a circular walk which would be fine for pushchairs and wheelchairs. This is the one my family use. It is approximately 2.2 km and flat.
Path Two is known as the Trussler Trail. This one goes over more uneven and taxing ground. We haven't done this one due to Bessie and my son. It is about 4.7 km and connects with longer-distance paths that go off the reserve. This lovely, well maintained footpath follows the river (The Lower Clydach)through a delightful wooded valley. We often visit this reserve as it is an ideal walk for our old lady, Bessie the 17 year old Border Collie and my three year old son. The path is flat and well looked after. There is ample parking at the entrance to the reserve. The RSPB website suggests that you are likely to see Buzzards, Dippers, Redstarts and Pied Flycatchers. I have spotted a Buzzard really close up and last time a Red Kite. The birdsong is fabulous and I'm sure if the little one was quieter we would have seen lots more birds. There are a couple of wooden bridges over the river which are ideal for playing Pooh Sticks! The spring flowers are stunning. There are also wild rasberries, strawberries and I think I found water-cress, but as I'm not a botanist I didn't take any chances! If you are looking for a quiet, untaxing ramble in a beautiful spot, this is the place for you. We have never bothered but according to the RSPB website there are guided walks available.
