"This is a stunning walk at any time of the year. It's one of my favourites when taking my two children for a drag!
Location
Take the main road along the sea-front of Swansea Bay. You just keep going and the Mumbles is well sign-posted. It's really a straight road. Once you reach the Mumbles you keep following the road along until it climbs steeply. There is a vast car-park on the left above Bracelet Bay and adjacent to the Casellmare Restaurant.
The parking is a bit pricey, last time I went it was £2.00 for 2 hours, still in my opinion it is worth it.
The walk commences to the right of the car-park. There is a brief walk along a pavement to the start of the path.
This path is a small segment of a longer path and the least challenging. It is mostly tarmaced and covers a distance of approximately 2KM. It is good underfoot and for the most part has some short climbs and drops, however, there is one particularly steep section about a quarter of the way into the walk. I would not fancy pushing a pram or a wheelchair up that one!
Thankfully there is a well-placed bench at the top for those of us who aren't as fit as we used to be! My 3 year old son managed it fairly well, although it did take quite a bit of encouragement.
The sea views are spectacular as you go along the way and the flora and fauna is amazing. We found lots of butterflies and caterpillars and plenty of gulls swooping around the cliffs.
You can take the path all the way into Langland and have a play on the huge beach, watch the surfers and get a bag of chips. We decided to cut the walk slightly short and have a glass of pop at the conveniently placed cafe at about the three-quarters point. There are clean toilets and access to the beach down some steep steps. The cafe is again a bit pricey, but boy was that ice-cold coke welcome!
The walk back is fairly gentle and it's a joy to be going down the steep bit and not up.
Best of all, on the return to the car park there is a fabulous children's playground as a reward for all that walking. The Castellmare has an excellent selection of ice-creams to die for and an extensive menu for all tastes.
I love this walk, its very atmospheric and just long enough for reluctant junior walkers!"
