B&B / Guest House Description
Situated in the beautiful Orkney Islands, The Murray Arms Hotel is a well placed base from which to take in everything the area has to offer.
There are five bedrooms; a selection of single, double and twin rooms which are all tastefully decorated in soothing neutral tones. The bedrooms have all been recently refurbished and all have en-suite bathrooms, a TV, radio and coffee making facilities.
Hot and cold meals are available throughout the day until 9pm and there is also a public bar open to hotel guests and locals; here you can play pool, darts and various bar games while enjoying cheerful Orkney hospitality.
The Murray Arms Hotel is located in St Margaret's Hope where you're close enough to the coast to make the hotel perfect for a spot of island hopping, and ideal for a romantic weekend where no-one can bother you! The hotel itself is a solid old stone building, typical of those found dotted around this most Northern part of the UK.
Orkney itself is renowned for its wildlife and at certain times of the year you can be lucky enough to see puffins, seals, otters and even the odd porpoise or two! Boat trips around the Orkney coast can be arranged where you can do a spot of sea fishing and general sight seeing, or join a wildlife spotting boat trip where they'll take you to the best places to see all the native and migrating animals and birds.
If going off to do your own thing is more to your taste then you can visit The Tomb of the Eagles, Blacksmith's Smithy or Craft Workshop – you could even try your hand at a game of bowls on the Bowling Green or go for a round of golf at a nearby 9 hole course. Do try to visit the imposing St Magnus Cathedral too, and take time to see one of the many RSPB Reserves which are fascinating to wander around.
A room in The Murray Arms Hotel costs between £30 and £33 per person per night, depending on the type of room you want to book – this includes a hearty Scottish breakfast to set you up for your day of sight seeing and relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Wherever possible the hotel uses local produce for their menu and quality is guaranteed.
