Mullacott Farm is ideally situated in North Devon with a wealth of attractions and things to see and do. For the active there is bike hire and cycling on the Tarka Trail, golf, water sports, walking, fishing and riding.
Take a leisurely walk around Lynmouth harbour, the cobbled roads at Appledore, the narrow streets in Clovelly or just spend time visiting the markets, craft centres, pubs and restaurants.
Hartland Abbey and Gardens are well worth a visit in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with peacocks, bantams, donkeys and Welsh mountain sheep in the grounds and park and just 1 mile from the Atlantic Coast.
Arlington Court estate is nestled in the valley of the River Yeo with model ships, tapestries, peweter and shells from Miss Rosalie Chichester's travels. One of the best collections of 19th Century horse drawn vehicles can be found in the stable block and 30 acre gardens with Jacob sheep and Shetland ponies.
Chambercombe Manor is an 11th century Manor House with haunted room, secret passage and 4 acres of gardens. Relax in Lady Jane's Tea Rooms with cream teas, morning coffee and light lunches.
Tapeley Park is a 35 acre site with 4 themed areas with gardens with a variety of flowers, shrubs, vegetables and wildlife as well as Italian Terrace Borders, walled kitchen garden, lake and granite labyrinth. There are falconry displays, Highland cattle, peacocks, Berkshire pigs and tea rooms serving light lunches and teas. Children can enjoy the play area in the wild garden and there are plants for sale.
Watersmeet House is a fishing lodge with NT shop, refreshments and information. Built in 1832 it was a tea garden from 1901 and offers beautiful walks.

Exit the M5 at Junction 27 following the a361 to Barnstaple. Stay on the A361 and follow the signs to Ilfracombe. On entering Ilfracombe from Mullacott Cross, turn left 300 metres from the roundabout at the brown tourist sign for Mullacott Riding Stables and Mullacott Farm Camping Barn. Drive through the two white pillars with horses heads on leaving the road and take the first right. Follow the signs keeping on the right hand side of the paddock coming up to the farmhouse which you will find on your right.
From the Tourist Information Centre: from the car park, turn right to the second set of lights and turn right onto St Brannocks Road. Continue past the lay by on your right then take the next right up the hill after the brown tourist sign for Mullacott Farm Camping Barn and Mullacott Riding Stables. Drive through the two white pillars with horses heads on leaving the road and take the first right. Follow the signs keeping on the right hand side of the paddock coming up to the farmhouse which you will find on your right.

Bed & Breakfast:
For Bed and Breakfast accommodation in North Devon, the Swallow Barn offers a relaxing country stay. Located in the annex of the farmhouse it still retains the charm and character of the original building with exposed beams. You will be warmly welcomed by Alison and Adian Homa and Caroline and Bryan Channing with the non-smoking B&B providing a very high standard of cleanliness and fresh farm food.
Each bedroom has a double and single bed with en-suite shower room and tastefully decorated in a country cottage style. There are 2 ground floor bedrooms with access to the patio and 4 bedrooms upstairs. Two of these rooms are adjoining with connecting door and the other two have double bed and 2 single beds in each. Facilities include colour TV, clock radios, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, lots of storage and seating area.
Served in the country dining room the farmhouse breakfast includes a traditional English breakfast with sausages from our own pork, bacon cured and sliced on the farm, eggs from our free range hens and ducks, tomatoes from the greenhouse, home made bread, jam and marmalade. On the dresser is a selection of cereals, grape food segments, prunes and orange juice served with tea, coffee or hot chocolate. If you have any special dietary requirements just let us know in advance.
Packed lunches can be provided if ordered the night before.
There is storage for surfboards and bicycles and we welcome dogs but they will need to sleep in the stable, kept on a lead and cleaned up after at all times.
Camping:
At Mullacott Farm we have an 8 acre site for camping in North Devon on a Certified Site with male/female toilet and shower block, mains drinking water on the field, Elsan disposal point, electric hook up and ample parking. The camp site is family friendly and ball games and kites are encouraged. Enjoy a barbeque. Dogs are also welcome if they are kept on leads at all times and cleaned up after.
Non-members of the Camping and Caravanning Club are welcome to enjoy a taster stay with details on how to join provided with no obligation.
Camping Barn:
The former stables have been converted into the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) camping barn on the working farm. Open plan, the accommodation is at ground level with raised sleeping areas. There is one sleeping 8 and small stalls sleeping 2-4 with each platform with mattresses at no cost – you just need to bring bedding or a sleeping bag and warm clothing.
Air curtain heaters are throughout the barn. No other heating equipment should be used in the wooden building unless certified by an electrician.
The dining area is equipped with full size electric oven, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, sinks, coin operated hot water heater, tumble drier, basic cooking equipment and cutlery. Candles are not allowed. There is a toilet block and coin operated electric shower just a few steps away and covered storage area for rucksacks, cycles and surfboards.
Picnic and barbeque area are adjacent. There's car parking and you can get free range eggs and sausages from the farm.
The camping barn is ideal for school groups, Scouts, Guides, Duke of Edinburgh Award participants, family holidays and college/university reunions.
Guest are asked to make sure the barn is clean and tidy including recycling, beds, floors and kitchen.
Static Caravan:
There is a 3 bedroom static caravan providing self catering in North Devon in a sheltered area with views of the paddock. Sleeping 6 there is a master double, twin room with 2 small beds and another twin/double with wardrobe and over bed cupboard. Each room includes bedding: duvets, pillows, mattress protectors, sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases.
The bathroom includes basin, mains flushing toilet and hip bath/shower.
The galley kitchen is equipped with fridge with icebox, cooker, microwave, kettle and toaster, glassware, crockery and cutlery.
The lounge/dining room is comfortable with banquet seating, crockery cupboard, gas fire and television. There is a door out to the patio and the dining table can be packed away for extra space.
Secure caravan storage is available outdoors with 24 hour on-site security. You can also take advantage of short stay storage, outside cleaning and towing.
Mullacott Farm is a family run working farm with Dexter cows, ewes, rams, Poll Dorset sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, Ebden geese and Alpacas. The farm is child friendly but the animals are not pets and should not be fed. Our 3 horses Storm, Brecon and Sampson in the bottom paddock welcome lots of attention though.
