Situated between Alston and Nethead, Rock House Estate is ideally situated for walkers, cyclists, climbers and families. With Ordinance Survey maps provided, walkers can enjoy a stroll down to the pub, up the fell to enjoy the view or something a little more challenging. Walks from Garrigill to Ashgill Force and the walk to Alston have lovely waterfalls to see.
Cyclists and Mountain bikers have the C2C cycle route through Alston and Nenthead and tracks in Hamsterley Forest. There's also pony trekking at Sinderhope Pony Trekking Centre, Golf Courses at Alston and Allendale, a swimming pool in Garrigill, Quad biking near Penrith, climbing, canyoning and caving at Alston Training and Adventure Centre or there's Birdwatching with weekends and tours available to be arranged.
Visit Durham Cathedral, Castle or the nearby Beamish Museum. Nenthead was an old mining village with an underground tour or from Alston there's the narrow gauge steam railway to Kirkham. In the Tees Valley you can park at the pub and walk down to see the High Force Waterfall or visit the Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle. Hadrian's Wall is about an hour from Rock House Estate or visit the quieter areas of the Lake District including Ullswater with its lake trips.

Weekly Price: £425.00 to £620.00
Shortbreak Price: £320.00 to £620.00
A £100 deposit (50% of balance over Christmas) is required to secure a booking due within 7 days of receiving the confirmation form by cheque. The balance is then due 8 weeks prior to stay.
Unfortunately we are unable to accept Credit Card payments.
A refundable bond of £25 will be repaid within 7 days of departure if there is no damage to the property or contents.
Pets are welcome charged at £20 per week / part week, per pet.

From Glasgow take the A74M to J44 for Carlisle. The A689 towards Brampton, A69 towards Newcastle and turn right for the A689 to Alston.
From Edinburgh: take the A68 to Corbridge, A69 west towards Carlisle then turn left just before Haydon Bridge. Take the A689 to Langley Castle and Alston.
From Tyneside take the A69 past Hexham and turn left just before Haydon Bridge then take the A689 to Langley Castle and Alston.
From Manchester/Midlands: take the M6 to J40 at Penrith then take the A689 to Alston.
From London: take the M6 or M1/A1 depending on traffic.
From Scotch corner take the A66 then B6277 to Alston. If the weather is bad follow the A1 and take the A68 then A689.
From Alston: take the A689 for 2.5 miles towards Nenthead and turn left. There is a brown tourist sign just after the Nenthall Hotel for Rock House Estate.
From Nenthead take the a689 for 2 miles towards Alston and turn right before the hotel - you should see the brown tourist sign for Rock House Estate.
From the tourist sign: follow the lane up the hill and round to the right for about 1.5 miles. On the right surrounded by trees is Greenends, then the white house is Rock House Farm. The reception is the owners house, Valley View.

Welcoming children and pets, Ramblers Rest offers the perfect place to stay in Cumbria for families. The self catering cottage will sleep 5 – 7 people with a double bedroom with space for a cot, a triple bedroom with 3 single beds and a sofa bed in the lounge to sleep another couple.
Relax in the lounge with Freesat television with video and DVD player or just enjoy the picturesque view over the valley. Toys, games, videos and DVDs are provided. The kitchen/dining room has a stone flagged floor and pot belly stove.
For added luxury, there is a sauna downstairs and bathroom with corner bath and separate power shower.
The garden is enclosed making it a little more private and is ideal for dogs. A water bowl, clean-up bags, ball thrower and doggie towel are provided by us.
Opposite the nearby Rock House Farm is the Adventure Playground with swings, slide, chain walkway, climbing net and sandpit. The woods can also be explored and dens built.
For larger groups, Ramblers Rest can be booked with Nentside Barn and Writers Cottage to sleep up to 16. All 5 cottages (Ramblers Rest, Nentside Barn, Writers Cottage, Sunrise and Rock House Farm) can be booked together to sleep up to 34 with 3 cots.
