Take a trip to visit Durham Cathedral and Beamish Museum, the High Force Waterfall or Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle. Hadrian's Wall and Scotland are an hour away or you can explore the quieter areas of the Lake District and take a trip on the lake.
Ordinance Survey maps are available in the cottage with walks from the doorstep. Take a walk up the fell and enjoy the view to Scotland in the north and the Pennines to the south. There is a C2C cycle route through Alston and Nenthend for cyclists and other popular activities including birdwatching, canyoning, climbing, caving, golf, quad biking and swimming all available nearby.

Shortbreak Price: £240.00 to £445.00
A £100 deposit (50% of balance over Christmas) is required to secure a booking due within 7 days of receiving the confirmation form by cheque. The balance is then due 8 weeks prior to stay.
Unfortunately we are unable to accept Credit Card payments.
A refundable bond of £25 will be repaid within 7 days of departure if there is no damage to the property or contents.

From Glasgow take the A74M to J44 for Carlisle. The A689 towards Brampton, A69 towards Newcastle and turn right for the A689 to Alston.
From Edinburgh: take the A68 to Corbridge, A69 west towards Carlisle then turn left just before Haydon Bridge. Take the A689 to Langley Castle and Alston.
From Tyneside take the A69 past Hexham and turn left just before Haydon Bridge then take the A689 to Langley Castle and Alston.
From Manchester/Midlands: take the M6 to J40 at Penrith then take the A689 to Alston.
From London: take the M6 or M1/A1 depending on traffic.
From Scotch corner take the A66 then B6277 to Alston. If the weather is bad follow the A1 and take the A68 then A689.
From Alston: take the A689 for 2.5 miles towards Nenthead and turn left. There is a brown tourist sign just after the Nenthall Hotel for Rock House Estate.
From Nenthead take the a689 for 2 miles towards Alston and turn right before the hotel - you should see the brown tourist sign for Rock House Estate.
From the tourist sign: follow the lane up the hill and round to the right for about 1.5 miles. On the right surrounded by trees is Greenends, then the white house is Rock House Farm. The reception is the owners house, Valley View.

Sleeping 2 in a Four Poster bed, Writers Cottage offers the perfect romantic self catering retreat in Cumbria. The cottage is upside down with the bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor while the open plan lounge, kitchen and dining room are upstairs to make the most of the breathtaking view of the valley.
With a corner spa bath you can unwind after a busy day exploring the area. Upstairs, the lounge is cosy with Freesat television, books and information to help you decide what to see and do during your stay.
Writers Cottage can be booked together with Nentside Barn and Ramblers Rest which are close to each other to sleep up to 16. For larger groups of up to 34 (plus 3 cots), all 5 of the Rock House Estate self catering cottages (Rock House Farm, Nentside Barn, Ramblers Rest, Sunrise and Writers Cottage ) can be booked.
