B&B / Guest House Description

Norwood is a large Georgian villa located in a quiet residential street in the Royal Burgh of Cullen. It is an historic listed building, built in the early 1800s, offering modern and comfortable accommodation.

The house is warm, inviting and very relaxing. We aim to offer a friendly welcome, excellent service and hospitality, together with freshly cooked food made from local produce (breakfast and dinner). We are delighted that our guest comments reflect this.

Norwood has 6 centrally heated bedrooms, all with TV, radio alarm and tea-making facilities. 3 of the bedrooms have en-suite shower facilities (the superior room on the ground floor having an extra large en-suite bathroom/dressing room). The remaining 3 bedrooms have private bathrooms.

Other facilities include a comfortable guest lounge, with books, maps, novels and games, a south-facing rose garden with seating area, and private parking in addition to on-street parking.

Norwood is building a strong reputation for freshly cooked, wholesome food, using local produce. The breakfast menu includes a buffet table, porridge (loved by many) and a full Scottish Breakfast, as well as Smoked Haddock and Kippers. For dinner, we operate a set menu, with menus available in advance for each week. You are also welcome to ask friends or relatives to join you for a meal, provided we know in advance.

Norwood is the ideal location for relaxing or energetic holidays for singles, couples or families. Its flexible accommodation also makes it ideally suited to house parties with friends or family (please ask about the special rates available).

Local Attractions

Cullen is not only located in a beautiful part of the country, but also enjoys a rich history, with links to Robert the Bruce, the Findlater and Seafield families, and Thomas Telford (who designed and built the harbour). The local walks will take you along the sandy beach (awarded a Blue Flag in 2003 for clean bathing water) and Cullen Bay (with the rock strata known as "The Three Kings"). Other features of note are the Cullen Auld Kirk (dating from the 14th Century), the Pet Cemetery (a scenic resting place for animals), Cullen House and Grounds, the Giant's Steps, Sunnyside Beach, Findlater Castle and the series of railway viaducts which now form part of the coastal footpath. When walking along the cliffs or playing Cullen's Tom Morris designed Links Golf Course, you may catch sight of one of only two resident populations of bottle-nosed dolphins in Britain. Whilst here, you must also taste the local delicacy of Cullen Skink and savour the "best ice cream in Scotland".

Cullen is ideally situated for exploring to the east along the Banffshire Coast, to the West along the Moray Coast, inland along Speyside and the Malt Whisky Trail, or following the Castle Trail. The area offers something for everyone - whether you are a lover of Nature, History and Heritage, Art and Culture, Water Sports, Wildlife and Fishing, or more active pursuits like Golfing, Walking and Cycling. There are over 30 golf courses within one hour's drive of Cullen. Each year, the area plays host to a variety of festivals, celebrating the area's strong maritime and musical heritage.
